In the early hours of Sunday October 4th, an off-duty Chicago police officer nearly killed a man on the 2600 block of W 24th Street in Little Village. The officer approached a group in his car when officer claims one of the men struck him in the face. This prompted the only reasonable response we could expect from a pig in a situation he escalated: shoot to kill. The man was struck twice, and another in the group was hit in the arm by the officer before he drove away, but the attack didn’t end there.
Not only did the officer in question bring a gun to an alleged fist fight, but after shooting two people, he drove down the block and fired more shots at the group with a gun in each hand. The pig claims he heard gun shots after he drove off, prompting him spin the block and to shoot at the group again but so far there’s no evidence of this.
News reports indicate that the officers mother had a prior conflict with the group of men her son fired at. This suggests that the pig had personal beef with these men and used his position as a police officer to confront them and escalate the situation to a near fatal outcome. While recklessly firing off rounds in the middle of the night, one of the officer bullets also entered into a women’s home nearby the shooting and landed just inches from her head. Luckily, however, the men who were shot and this woman escaped this situation with their lives intact but things could have easily ended differently.
Since the shooting, the officer has been put on paid leave and sent home to lick his wounds. His identity has been kept hidden leaving the neighborhood in the dark after being rocked by this senseless act of brutality by this loose cannon pig.
As the Civilian Office of Police Accountability begins another toothless investigation into the shooting, we ask why the special treatment? How can an officer, especially and off-duty one, fire at civilians and be free to go? If a civilian carried out this shooting, there would be no question of criminal charges against them. In fact, it’s likely we’d already know the person’s name, history, and that they’d have started a multi-year stay at Cook County Jail (CCJ).
We are calling on anyone outraged by this shooting to demand nothing short of criminal charges for the actions of this officer. We cannot let COPA, CPD or State’s Attorney Eileen Burke justify this shooting and let this cop off the hook.
If you wanna do something about these injustices, join us as we build for the National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality on October 22nd. O22 is a movement of the people fighting to end police brutality and ICE terror that is united on the principle that a system that let’s police officers kill and get away must be destroyed. If you agree, hit us up to join the fight.
